Permission for iftar denied amid Hindu religious festivals on university campus

Students at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), one of India’s top journalism schools, accused the university administration of religious discrimination after being denied permission to organize an iftar party on campus. 

The Muslim students pointed out that Hindu festivals like Holi and Diwali were recently celebrated on campus with the participation of the administration, students, staff, and faculty.

Police arrest eight Christians over allegations of forced conversion

In Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi, police arrested eight Christians over allegations of forced religious conversion. 

Christians across states have been arrested under India’s draconian anti-conversion law, which criminalizes conversion away from Hinduism. D.C.-based human rights group International Christian Concern has named India among the top 10 countries persecuting Christians in its 2023 Persecutors of the Year Report. 

Hindu supremacist leaders give open calls to violence against Muslims

In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, a Hindu supremacist leader delivered hate speech against Muslims and gave open calls to arms and violence.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Hindu supremacist group leader Ankur Sharma peddled conspiracy theories to stoke hatred against Muslims. In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, anti-Muslim hate speeches were delivered at an event organized by the Hindu supremacist group, organized by Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad.
