Muslim woman denied free food outside hospital after she refused to chant Jai Sri Ram
A Muslim woman was denied free food at a distribution for hospital patients and their relatives in Maharashtra’s Mumbai because she refused to obey the distributor’s demand to chant the Hindu supremacist slogan “Jai Sri Ram.”
The man distributing the food demanded that she first chant “Jai Sri Ram” before receiving food. When she refused, he told her she would not receive food. He then threatened the Muslim woman to leave, saying, “I’ll kick you.”
University students protest over Muslim woman praying on campus
In Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttarakhand’s Roorkee, Hindu supremacist university students protested against a Muslim woman offering prayers in the campus, after a video of the incident went viral. The students raised the Hindu supremacist warcry “Jai Sri Ram” during the protests and Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal went on to baselessly connect the incident with anti-Muslim conspiracies like “love jihad”and forced conversion.
Amid the increasing criminalization of Muslim symbols and practices by the BJP government, Muslims across India have faced criminal charges for offering prayers in public spaces.
Extremist leader places signboards on Hindu-owned shops, urges to buy only from them
In BJP-ruled Uttarakhand’s Nainital, Hindu extremist leader Raju Rawat led a campaign to distribute signboards to Hindu vegetable vendors. He urged the public to identify stalls based on their religious affiliation and encouraged people to purchase only from those displaying the boards, claiming it was necessary for “purity.”
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh government issued an order mandating that food establishments display the names and addresses of their owners, in a move that some have described as economic apartheid.
Hindu militants disrupt Christian prayer meeting in Bihar
In Bihar’s Gaya, Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal disrupted a Christian prayer meeting, alleging that they were forcibly converting Hindus to Christianity.
Attacks on Christians have become common under several Indian states’ draconian anti-conversion laws, which criminalize conversion away from Hinduism.
