A 19-year-old Muslim youth, who was the victim of sexual humiliation by a Hindu extremist mob, was jailed for allegedly “disrespecting” a saffron flag. Last week, the victim was assaulted and publicly paraded naked by a Hindu extremist mob in Sangareddy, Telangana, who also tried to set his private parts on fire. The police arrested the victim, while his attackers walked free.
Militant groups demands Muslims hand over historic Gyanvapi mosque to Hindus
Emboldened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of the Ram Temple on the site of the demolished Babri Mosque, the Hindu militant group Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has demanded that the historic Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh be handed over to Hindus and converted into a temple.
The VHP’s demands followed the public release of an archaeological survey report, where the lawyer representing Hindu litigants claimed that the mosque was constructed after demolishing a pre-existing temple.
Muslim man killed in police firing in Uttar Pradesh, family calls it fake encounter
A 23-year-old Muslim man, Matin, died after he succumbed to injuries caused due to police firing in far-right BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state. The police alleged he was a thief and was killed in an encounter, while his family insists he had nothing to do with theft and was killed in a fake encounter.
At least 183 people have been killed in similar police-related incidents in the last six years of the far-right BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, as reported by the police in April 2023.
School principal arrested for preaching Buddhism
A school principal in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh was arrested on charges of hurting religious sentiments for preaching Buddhism and discouraging belief in Hindu gods during a gathering. Ratanlal Sarovar, 60, reportedly made the speech on the day of the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple. Sarovar was also suspended by the district’s education department and is currently in jail.
