Muslim man shot in the head, many injured due to police firing Tripura

A Muslim man was killed after a gunshot wound to the head, and 17 others were injured due to police firing in Tripura’s Kadamtala. The incident occurred after a group of Muslims were reportedly beaten by Hindu extremists for refusing to contribute money for a Hindu religious festival, leading to violent clashes. 

Police intervened and opened fire, leading to the death of a Muslim shop owner and injuring many others. The victim, Alfesani, was shot in the head while protecting his store. 

Prohibitory orders have been clamped in the region, and will remain in effect until 9 October.

Six Muslim men arrested for protesting Hindu extremist monk’s hate speech

Police in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad arrested six Muslim men for protesting against Hindu extremist monk Yati Narsinghanand’s offensive remarks against Prophet Muhammad. Police alleged that the men threw stones at officers during the protest. 

Narsinghanand, a serial hatemonger, had recently delivered a hate speech demonizing Islam and calling for the eradication of Muslims. He also urged his audience to burn effigies of Prophet Muhammad during Hindu festivals. 

Hindu militants, police disrupt Christian prayer meeting in Uttarakhand

BJP-ruled Uttarakhand’s Haridwar, Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal joined police officials in disrupting a Christian prayer meeting, baselessly alleging that the worshippers were forcing Hindus to convert to Christianity.

Attacks on churches have become common under several Indian states’ draconian anti-conversion laws, which criminalize conversion away from Hinduism.

Hindu militants stop Hindu festival celebrations over Muslims attending

In Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal forced a Hindu festival to stop its dance festival, claiming Muslims should not be allowed in the event and forcing their way in to attack Muslims. In a similar incident in Telangana’s Shamshabad, Hindu extremists disrupted the dance event upon learning that Muslims were attending it.

In Indore, Hindu militant leader Tannu Sharma baselessly claimed that Muslim men join the event to dance with Hindu women and then indulge in “love jihad.”

Court acquits 7 Hindu men in case related to anti-Muslim violence in 2013

A court in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh has acquitted seven accused Hindu supremacists in a case related to anti-Muslim violence in Muzaffarnagar in 2013. More than 60 people were killed and over 40,000 people, overwhelmingly Muslims, were displaced due to the violence. 

The acquitted — Bittu, Praveen, Bablu, Pankaj, Pintu, Narender, and Anil — are all affiliated with Hindu militant groups. The men were accused of breaking into the house of a Muslim man and looting cash and jewelry.
