Muslim man dies in custody amid police claims of cow smuggling, family alleges brutality

In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur, a Muslim man, Nisaruddin, died in police custody after being shot by officers who claimed he was a cattle smuggler. However, his family has disputed the allegation, claiming that the police detained Nisaruddin while he was having tea in the market and shot him in the leg. They also reported signs of assault, including injuries to his chest and bleeding from his nose and ears.

The incident is the latest in an ongoing trend of violent attacks against predominantly Muslim cattle traders by law enforcement. Earlier this year, multiple injuries occurred on a near-weekly basis due to police firings. 

Officials demolish Muslim settlements after BJP lawmaker sets them on fire

In BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj, civic officials demolished structures in a predominantly Muslim settlement near a temple. The illegal demolition was carried out after BJP lawmaker Pradeep Patel attempted to demolish them himself.  On November 19, Hindu extremists led by Patel set houses on fire in predominantly Muslim settlements near the temple premises, while chanting “Jai Sri Ram.”

In Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, Hindu extremist cow vigilantes surrounded a Muslim woman and harassed her after finding her with meat, which they claimed was an illegally slaughtered cow.

In Haryana’s Nuh, cow vigilantes assaulted and humiliated the drivers of a truck transporting cattle over allegations of smuggling cows for slaughter. In similar incidents across Uttar Pradesh, cow vigilantes assaulted truck drivers over allegations of smuggling cows.

Muslim man beaten and forced to chant “Jai Sri Ram” in Uttar Pradesh

A 20-year-old Muslim man was assaulted and forced to chant the Hindu supremacist warcry “Jai Sri Ram” in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, according to his family. However, police have refuted the allegation, describing it as a case of “personal enmity.”

The family reported that Gulfam was accosted by three men, who beat him, stripped him, and forced him to chant the slogan. They also snatched his phone and left him unconscious after the assault.

Muslim man arrested after Hindu extremists allege he forcibly converted his wife to Islam

In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad, a Muslim man was arrested after Hindu supremacists alleged that he married a Hindu woman and deceived her into converting to Islam. 

Hindu militants are known for violently policing interfaith relationships between Muslim men and Hindu women, resulting in Muslim men being publicly attacked, arbitrarily arrested, and sometimes lynched.  

Hindu extremists claim Muslim shrine was once a temple, demand survey

A Hindu extremist group has claimed that the historic Muslim shrine in Rajasthan’s Ajmer was originally a temple and demanded a survey of the premises. The group has filed a petition seeking removal of the Muslim shrine and urged that Hindu devotees be allowed to worship there. 

Recently, five Muslims were killed after police officers fired on Muslims protesting a court-ordered survey of the historic Shahi Jama Mosque in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, a move demanded by Hindu supremacists to check for temple ruins underneath.
