India’s Ruling Party Members Beat Muslim Man, Force Him To Lick Own Spit From Ground
In a shocking incident gone viral on social media, a mob of workers belonging to the India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand state assaulted, abused and humiliated Zeeshan Khan, a Muslim. Khan was passing by a BJP protest site when he was attacked.
His attackers alleged that Khan made remarks critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP workers beat him, forced him to do sit-ups, lick his own spit, and chant “Jai Shri Ram,” a Hindu religious slogan that has become a war cry of Hindu extremist mobs.
The viral video, shot by someone present at the location, shows a mob surrounding Khan as he is abused.Yet, the police have arrested only two people.
Hindu Extremist Mob Brutally Attacks Muslim Man And Family In Karnataka
A mob of Hindu extremists brutally attacked a Muslim family on January 8 in Karnataka state as they returned home from visiting a Muslim shrine.
Horrific images of the victims show a man’s bloodied face with deep gashes on the forehead and the back of his head. The incident occurred in Kolar district as the family was returning from Usman Shah Dargah.
As is usual in BJP-ruled Karnataka, the police have not arrested the criminals. The state has witnessed a sharp rise in brutal hate attacks over the last year. A Muslim youth was beheaded in September 2020. Christians families and pastors have been regularly attacked. Activists attribute this rise in hate to Karnataka’s new anti-conversion law that will make it even easier for Hindu extremists to attack and arrest Muslims and Christians over false allegations of forcibly converting Hindus.
Kashmir Reporter Charged With Criminal Conspiracy Merely For Tweeting Protest Video
Police in India’s Kashmir region have arrested Sajad Gul, a reporter, merely for tweeting a video of a protest. Ludicrously, he has been charged under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and 505B (fear or alarm to the public) of the Indian Penal Code. He was arrested days after posting a video of a family shouting anti-India slogans after their relative was killed in a gunfight in Srinagar.
“We pleaded with them (the police), saying that if he has made any mistake, please forgive him and we are assuring you that he won’t repeat it again,” a family member of Gul’s told The Wire, a news website.
Such illegal arrests are common in Indian-ruled Kashmir, where, according to Human Right Watch, people are routinely detained arbitrarily on false charges of inciting violence. Said Fahad Shah, the editor-in-chief of the publication where Gul works: “People who incite violence in the rallies, events, in the public are being celebrated. And journalists who report facts are in jails.”
Hindu Extremists Vandalize Muslim Shrine, Claim They Are Preventing “Land Jihad”
Hindu extremists in Himachal Pradesh state were caught on video destroying a Muslim shrine, claiming that it was “illegal” and a form of “land jihad” to place a shrine in that location. A song that praises a number of Hindu deities plays in the background of the video, as people belonging to the extremist group Hindu Jagran Manch tear down the shrine.
The video was shared by another Hindu extremist on Facebook, along with the caption, “The land Jihad will not be tolerated in Devbhoomi. Every illegal Pir Mazar will have the same result. The Hindu heroes of Himachal will continue their campaign against Islamic Jihad.”
This is the latest in a series of attacks against Muslim and Christian places of worship across India. Hindu extremists often justify any sort of attacks against innocent Muslims with the excuse that they are preventing “jihad,” a claim that is not only baseless, but also increases fear and hatred for Muslims in India.
