IAMC mourns the loss of prominent Islamic scholar Maulana Yusuf Islahi

WASHINGTON, DC (December, 21 2021) – Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos today expressed grief over the demise of prominent Islamic scholar Maulana Yusuf Islahi in India, yesterday.
Maulana Islahi was a renowned scholar, speaker, writer and educationist who dedicated his life to the service of Islam and humanity. In India he founded several institutions, including an Islamic seminary for girls. He authored over 60 books in his lifetime, including renowned works like “Easy Jurisprudence” and “Etiquettes of Life in Islam.” Several of his works were translated into other languages and continue to guide and inspire millions around the world.
Maulana Islahi also spoke up against injustice and oppression and was a champion of interfaith harmony around the world. On several occasions he shared a platform with IAMC, and his concern for the future of minorities in India was a major impetus for many of his endeavors.
“Maulana Islahi has left behind a rich legacy of dedication and selfless service spanning an entire lifetime,” said Khalid Ansari, Vice-President of the Indian American Muslim Council. “He was an exemplary Muslim, in his piety, humility and profound sensitivity for the human condition,” added Mr. Ansari.
