IAMC celebrates 72nd India Independence Day – Diaspora pledges commitment to pluralism
August 15, 2018
The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC – www.iamc.com), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, today joined millions of people, in India and around the world, to celebrate the 72nd India’s Independence Day.
While sharing in the joy of India’s independence from colonial rule, activists and community members marked the occasion as a sober reminder of how far India has come from its founding principles.
The brutal mob lynchings, the shrinking space for a free press, and the incessant hateful rhetoric are all indicative of a nation under attack. “We need yet another freedom struggle,” said Mr. Ahsan Khan, President of IAMC. “We need to break ourselves free from the stranglehold of vicious ideology that is intent on turning Indians against one another on the basis of religion, caste and creed,” added Mr. Khan.
Indian-American Muslim Council is the largest advocacy organization of Indian Muslims in the United States with chapters across the nation. For more information please visit our website at: http://www.iamc.com
