How a Muslim family in J&K provided a film crew with a home during the Covid-19 lockdown
A Muslim family in Bhadarwah, J&K opened its home and heart – to a film team from Pune stranded after the nationwide lockdown was imposed on March 25. It’s the true spirit of Kashmiriyat, said Nachiket Guttikar who has been staying at the home of Nazim Malik in Gatha village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district for several weeks and counting.
With him are his team members Shamin Kulkarni and Ninad Datar. The team reached here on March 15 to shoot for a documentary and was scheduled to board a flight from Jammu to Pune on March 25, the very day the lockdown came into effect.… Seeing that the travellers were in distress, Malik’s family offered them their house.…
“It has been several weeks since we have been staying with this family. We are feeling at home because of the friendly nature of all the members,” he (Guttikar) said.… The Malik family members also consider themselves fortunate, saying they have got an opportunity to help distressed strangers amid the unprecedented health crisis.…

Members of the Dawoodi Bohra community in India have been distributing food and medicines to people affected by the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, religion no bar. In several cities across Maharashtra and Gujarat – where the community has a sizeable presence – the members have taken it upon themselves to distribute food packets to people living in slums and other underprivileged areas every day.
In Nashik, it has tied up with the local administration for doorstep delivery of medicines to senior citizens and those with disabilities. In Pune, it has also set up helplines for people to call and get food and medicines delivered to their place.…
