Hindu mob threatens, humiliates Muslim vendor in Himachal Pradesh
A Muslim hawker was brutally beaten and assaulted by a Hindu extremist mob in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla, for not leaving the region even after receiving threats. The goons humiliated him by forcing him to act like a chicken and also threatened to kill him. “Bring my sword. I will cut him today,” one of them can be heard saying.
Hindu extremists in Himachal Pradesh have been targeting Muslim migrant workers and asking them to confirm their religious identity to decide if they should be “allowed” or “prohibited” based on their religion.
“Jai Sri Ram” slogans raised, Muslim women heckled at Hindu event in university
At Jamia Millia Islamia university, Hindu supremacists participating in a religious event raised “Jai Sri Ram” slogans at Muslim students and heckled women. The event had attendees from outside the campus, including prominent Hindu extremist leaders.
Student groups have slammed the university administration for permitting the event which resulted in hostilities.
Several restrictions have been imposed on events and protests on the campus after a protest movement against discriminatory citizenship laws in December 2019. Students have complained that the administration has been aligning with the Hindu nationalist regime while silencing and policing all forms of expression in the university.
Muslim cattle traders stripped, assaulted in Maharashtra
In Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar, a mob of Hindu extremist cow vigilantes brutally beat and stripped two Muslim cattle traders, stripped them, and brutally thrashed them before handing them over to the police. Their vehicle was vandalized, and the 52 cattle they were transporting were also seized.
In Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadara, Hindu extremists apprehended two men and handed them over to police for allegedly transporting beef. Similarly, in Haryana’s Karnal, Hindu militants stopped a truck and falsely accused it of smuggling cows.
Police raid Christian prayer meeting and detain pastor after BJP leader’s complaint
In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh, police officials, acting on a complaint from BJP leader Haribans Mishra, raided a Christian prayer meeting and took the pastor into custody. Mishra baselessly alleged that Hindu women were being lured into converting to Christianity with money.
Christians across states have been arrested under India’s draconian anti-conversion law, which criminalizes conversion away from Hinduism.
