Hindu extremists threaten Muslims into vacating towns en masse
Hindu extremists in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttarakhand state have put up posters threatening violence against Muslims if they don’t vacate their shops in Uttarkashi city.
The posters went up days after two people, including a Muslim man, tried to abduct a minor girl from the area. This incident has been referred to as a case of “love jihad” by Hindu extremists, who are using this case as an excuse to harass Muslims, vandalize their property, and threaten them with violence.
The posters stated that “love-jihadis are informed that they should vacate their shops” before an upcoming Hindu hate speech event. If not, “then [the consequences] will depend on time,” the poster read.
Over the past two weeks, strikes have been called in four towns, demanding the expulsion of Muslims. Hindu extremists have also marked Muslim-owned shops with black cross marks, as a sign of boycott.
On May 28th, 42 Muslim families fled from Purola city due to tensions. Nine landlords recently issued eviction notices to Muslim tenants.
Hindu extremist mob assaults elderly Muslim man in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh
A mob of extremists from the violent Hindu militant group Bajrang Dal assaulted an elderly Muslim man who was found with cattle in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Jatpur city.
A video of the incident shows a number of people armed with sticks surrounding the elderly man while a policeman can also be seen standing nearby. The victim is sitting on the ground holding his head.
Hindu militant mobs have increasingly been targeting Muslims over baseless accusations of crime. These mobs, also known as cow vigilantes, are known for attacking and often lynching Muslims accused of transporting cattle or consuming beef with impunity.
BJP leader threatens to kill Muslims, directs Hindu women to stay away from Muslim women
BJP lawmaker and serial hatemonger T Raja Singh continues to violate his conditions for bail by making Islamophobic and anti-Muslim hate speeches. Singh was recently seen threatening violence against Muslim men and directing Hindu women to refrain from befriending “burkha-clad women,” referring to Muslim women.
Speaking at a public rally in Telangana’s Adilabad district on Sunday, Singh instigated the crowd against Muslims, asking them to “hang Muslim men upside down and kill them.” He went on to glorify violence against Muslims involved in cattle trade and cattle slaughter.
Earlier this year, Raja Singh participated in rallies organized by Hindu militant organizations across India and made calls to subjugate and boycott Muslims. He had called on Hindus to beat, mutilate, and kill Muslims while referring to them as “cockroaches” at a rally in Maharashtra state. However, the police are yet to take any action.
Earlier, Singh was imprisoned for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad. He is out on bail on the condition that he does not make hate speeches again, yet faces no consequences for continuously violating those conditions.
