A bearded Muslim man was brutally assaulted by a mob of 10-20 Hindu extremists shouting “kill this bearded man” after his scooter slightly collided with another vehicle in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh. The victim, Mohammed Rashid, was taking his sick father to a hospital for treatment.
In June, a Muslim man was lynched to death by a mob in Aligarh. Days after his death, the police had booked the deceased on charges of dacoity and assaulting a woman.
BJP lawmaker harasses Muslim shop owners in Delhi, forces them to display their names
In the capital city of Delhi, BJP lawmaker Ravinder Singh Negi harassed several Muslim shop owners and asked them to display their names on merchandise, as a way to reveal their religious identity to buyers.
“People might see our name and stop buying from the shop,” said the owner. “I also fear that if any untoward incident occur, it will be easy to target.”
Hindu militants harass hotel owner for employing Muslim worker in Uttar Pradesh
In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, Hindu militants from the Bajrang Dal created a disturbance at a food stall upon discovering that a Muslim employee worked there. They harassed the owner and demanded that food samples be tested. The police backed the militants’ demands and agreed to investigate the stall owner.
Following the introduction of a controversial policy in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh requiring eateries to publicly display the names of all employees, several Muslims have reported job losses and the potential closure of their businesses.
Muslim lynched to death over alleged beef consumption, lab test reveals not beef
In August, a Hindu extremist mob lynched a Muslim migrant worker from West Bengal in Haryana after they accused him of eating beef. However, laboratory tests have now confirmed that the meat was not beef.
The victim, 22-year-old Sabir Malik, had come to Haryana to work as a ragpicker and was living with his wife and two-year-old daughter. Hours before the mob lynching, Hindu extremists had called the police claiming that beef was being cooked and consumed in the nearby shanties. Even as the meat was seized by the police and sent for testing, the assailants beat Sabir to death.

In Jammu & Kashmir’s Ramban, Hindu extremist cow vigilantes assaulted a group of men for allegedly transporting cattle.
Hindu militant mobs have increasingly been targeting Muslims over baseless accusations of committing crimes. These mobs, also known as cow vigilantes, attack and often lynch Muslims accused of transporting cattle or consuming beef.
Man arrested after BJP leader claims he converts Hindus to Christianity
In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, following a complaint from a BJP leader, police arrested a Christian man from Kerala for allegedly organizing religious sermons at a relative’s apartment. The authorities are also investigating allegations of him illegally luring Hindus to Christianity.
Christians across states have been arrested under India’s draconian anti-conversion law, which criminalizes conversion away from Hinduism.
