Virtual Celebration of India’s 75th Independence Day
We have a great line up of speakers and activists who will address two important themes:
1. Role of Muslims in India’s Freedom Struggle
2. The Idea of India and What is at Stake?
The first segment of the program will have experts cover the role of India’s Muslims in India’s freedom struggle and will attempt to break the myth that Muslims didn’t contribute to India’s independence from the British rule.
The second part of the program will cover the idea of India and what’s at stake. Even today India’s Muslims are fighting for their democratic rights. Muslims and Hindus have lived peacefully in India for centuries, until the cataclysmic partition of India in 1947 that sparked widespread riots, communal violence, and mass migrations. This was also a precursor to the rise of Hindu Nationalism that faulted Muslims for the partition, views Indian Muslims as suspect foreigners, and champions policies intended to make India a Hindu state.
