Elderly Muslim man assaulted, humiliated for allegedly selling beef
In Maharashtra’s Jalgaon, a 65-year-old Muslim man was brutally beaten and paraded semi-naked by Hindu extremist cow vigilantes over allegations of selling beef. The assault, which was filmed and widely shared, was carried out in public. Despite video evidence, authorities charged the victim and his son while letting the attackers walk free, sparking outrage and allegations of police bias.
Hindu extremists accused of murder celebrated in their hometown
Two Hindu extremist men accused of playing a role in the 2017 murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, Amit Baddi and Ganesh Miskin, were celebrated by their families and supporters in their hometown of Hubballi, Karnataka. The men were garlanded while supporters chanted slogans and bursted firecrackers. Banners glorifying the men as “Hindu tigers” were also put up in the city.
Gauri Lankesh is believed to have been murdered due to her fierce criticism of Hindu supremacy, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and India’s largest Hindu supremacist paramilitary group, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Cow vigilantes harass Muslim men over buffalo meat
In Maharashtra’s Nashik, Hindu extremist cow vigilantes detained and harassed two Muslim men transporting meat for a wedding, falsely alleging it was beef. The men insisted it was buffalo meat, but the vigilantes continued to film and harass the men.
