Court accepts petition seeking Hindu takeover of Shamsi Shahi mosque in Uttar Pradesh

A court in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh accepted a Hindu supremacist petition seeking a takeover of the historic Shamsi Shahi mosque in Budaun. The petition also demanded permission for Hindus to offer prayers at the premises.

Recently, a leader of the extremist group wrote to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) demanding a survey of the historic Jama Masjid in Delhi. In Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, five Muslims were killed after police officers fired on Muslims protesting a court-ordered survey of the historic Shahi Jama Mosque, a move demanded by Hindu supremacists to check for temple ruins underneath.

BJP member vandalizes Muslim-owned restaurant’s nameplate

In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat, BJP member Manupal Bansal vandalized the nameplate of a vegetarian restaurant and threatened the Muslim owner for allegedly having a Hindu name for the store.

Human rights activists and opposition politicians have labeled this targeted harassment and forced identification of Muslim vendors “economic apartheid,” mirroring the way Jewish businesses were marked in Nazi Germany.

Five Christians arrested after Hindu militants raid prayer meeting

Police in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar, arrested five Christians after Hindu militants from the Vishwa Hindu Parsishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal raided a Christian household during a prayer meeting, harassed the attendees and accused them of forcibly converting Hindus to Christianity.

Anti-conversion laws across BJP-ruled states have emboldened Hindu extremists, leading to increased harassment of Christians and attacks on their places of worship.

Hindu extremists forcibly seize trucks transporting cattle

In Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar, Hindu extremist cow vigilantes intercepted and seized trucks transporting cattle, alleging that they were being taken for illegal slaughter.

Hindu militant mobs regularly attack Muslims over baseless accusations of committing crimes. These mobs, also known as cow vigilantes, assault and often lynch Muslims accused of transporting cattle or consuming beef.
