Civil rights groups call on American cinema orgs to refuse screening of Islamaphobic Bollywood film

The Council of American Islamic Relations and the Indian American Muslim Council lead a diverse coalition of interfaith, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, and Dalit (caste-oppressed South Asians) groups in urging American cinema organizations to refuse to screen the Islamaphobic Bollywood film “The Kerala Story” in the U.S. Numerous Indian and U.K. theaters have already refused to screen the low-budget propaganda film, which promotes the lie that some 32,000 Indian women were covertly radicalized by Muslim men and made to fight in terrorist groups. Like “The Kashmir Files”, an Indian film that inspired violent attacks against Muslims, “The Kerala Story” has been publicly celebrated by Modi and the BJP. The Kerala Story has already inspired viewers to call for violence against Muslims in Indian theaters. CAIR and IAMC therefore call on The National Association of Theatre Owners,  AMC Theatres, Fandango, Sling, Cinemark, Regal Movies, and Marcus Theatres to refuse to screen and/or promote “The Kerala Story.”
