180-year-old mosque demolished by officials in Uttar Pradesh

A 180-year-old mosque was demolished in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur. Civic officials claimed that the mosque was an “encroachment” though the mosque, built in 1839, predates the road it is accused of encroaching upon.

India’s Supreme Court recently banned the weaponization of demolitions as collective punishment against Muslims, declaring that any demolitions carried out without proper notice or legal permission amounts to contempt of court.

Court judge uses anti-Muslim slur, says India will function per wishes of Hindus

A judge of the Allahabad high court, Shekhar Kumar Yadav, said at a Hindu militant group event that India would function only as per the wishes of the “majority,” referring to Hindus. He also used the slur “kathmulla” to refer to Muslims, describing them as “fatal” to the nation.

In 2021, while denying bail to a Muslim man from Sambhal accused of stealing a cow and slaughtering it with his associates, Yadav had stated that the cow should be declared as ‘national animal’ and that gau raksha (cow protection) be included as a fundamental right of Hindus.

Hindu extremists vandalize Muslim shrines in school premises

In Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore, Hindu extremists vandalized several Muslim shrines within the premises of a government-owned school, alleging that they were illegally constructed.

The demolition of Muslim shrines across India has been endemic. Muslims have accused the far-right government of selectively targeting their shrines under the guise of removing encroachments.

Hindu extremists chase cars carrying cattle, cause accident

In Maharashtra’s Nandurbar, Hindu extremist cow vigilantes recklessly chased three cars carrying cattle, causing one to topple dangerously, while seizing the other two vehicles along with all the bovines.

Hindu militant mobs regularly attack Muslims over baseless accusations of committing crimes. These mobs, also known as cow vigilantes, assault and often lynch Muslims accused of transporting cattle or consuming beef.
